Tai Chi- based movements help the body to relax, releasing tensions and giving the mind a chance to settle and the body to cultivate Chi (energy).
These calming exercises promote health by enhancing energy levels while building strength, focus and flexibility.
Tai Chi / Chi Kung has been a great support in my life and something that I really enjoy sharing. I have been running community classes in Worthing, UK since 2003. I also teach classes and workshops online.
The following forms are at the core of my practice:
Traditional Long form Yang-style Tai Chi, 18 movements Tai Chi/ Chi Kung (Shibashi), a variety of Chi Kung forms, Hongmen Fan form, and 32 step Sword form.
I also have some experience of pushing hands partner work.
My gentle style has been inspired by a number of teachers that I have learnt from over the past 30 years or so.
My primary teacher was Cathy Wu (originally from Hong Kong, then based in Birkenhead, UK). She taught the Yang Cheng Fu lineage, Shibashi and push hands. Her teachers were Julia Lowe (founder of Liverpool China Town Yang Style group) and Master Dai Ren Li. I was a student of Cathy’s for around 8 years.
I have continued to seek out new learning opportunities and other teachers I have learnt from include:
Angus Clark, Tan Mew Hong (aka Fong Sutton), Catherine Robinson, Gudrun Gylling and Michael Richmond
This interview conducted by the Wellderness (community group) gives an insight into my Tai Chi journey:
